چکیده

Distributed Multimedia Information System Laboratory School of Computer Science, Florida International University Miami, FL 33199, USA Abstract Since the nineteenth century, the chemical process industries have developed rapidly not only in terms of degree of complexity and throughput, but also in potential hazards. Such hazards exist when chemicals undergo decomposition, polymerization or other unexpected runaway reactions in various processes. A variety of methods of hazard assessment are used to understand the various possible unexpected reactions in preliminary design stages. These methods include establishing the safety index, reaction hazard index, and safety parameter and assessment procedure, respectively. What is needed is a convenient and cost-effective method for hazard assessment in the process industries. Various factors dictate the accuracy of these methods, such as physical properties of active chemicals, reaction types and thermokinetic parameters. The aim of this study is to introduce and compare some assessment methods with specific examples on Cumene Hydroperoxide, and to elucidate the effects of reaction types and thermokinetic parameters via simulation. The ultimate goal is to develop more useful and practicable methods for hazard assessment for reactively unstable chemicals so that a proactive disaster prevention program can be adequately established.

Generation of free radicals from organic hydroperoxide tumor promoters in isolated mouse keratinocytes. Formation of alkyl and alkoxyl radicals from tert-butyl hydroperoxide and cumene hydroperoxide.

The organic hydroperoxides tert-butyl hydroperoxide and cumene hydroperoxide are tumor promoters in the skin of SENCAR mice, and this activity is presumed to be mediated through the activation of the hydroperoxides to free radical species. In this study we have assessed the generation of free radicals from organic hydroperoxides in the target cell (the murine basal keratinocyte) using electron ...

Thermal Hazard Evaluation of Cumene Hydroperoxide-Metal Ion Mixture Using DSC, TAM III, and GC/MS.

Cumene hydroperoxide (CHP) is widely used in chemical processes, mainly as an initiator for the polymerization of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene. It is a typical organic peroxide and an explosive substance. It is susceptible to thermal decomposition and is readily affected by contamination; moreover, it has high thermal sensitivity. The reactor tank, transit storage vessel, and pipeline used f...

Low-level chemiluminescence of hydroperoxide-supplemented cytochrome c.

Ferricytochrome c showed low-level chemiluminescence, with a light-emission measured of about 1x10(3)-3x10(3) counts/s, when supplemented with organic hydroperoxides. Tertiary hydroperoxides (cumene hydroperoxide and t-butyl hydroperoxide) showed a saturation behaviour at about 5mm-hydroperoxide, whereas primary hydroperoxides showed a quadratic dependence on the hydroperoxide concentration. Ch...

New Approaches for Calculating Safety Parameters and Estimating Hazard Severity for Cumene Hydroperoxide

Commonly used chemicals number more than four billion worldwide today, but an adequate understanding of the inherent properties of these materials exists only for several hundred thousands of them. Therefore, unexpected hazards or even accidents are difficult to avoid during preparation, transportation, manufacturing, storage and even disposal periods. Among these, hazards due to hydroperoxides...

Fatty acid hydroperoxides support cytochrome P450 2S1-mediated bioactivation of benzo[a]pyrene-7,8-dihydrodiol.

In the accompanying report (p. 1031), we showed that a novel dioxin-inducible cytochrome P450, CYP2S1, efficiently metabolizes benzo[a]pyrene-trans-7,8-dihydrodiol (BaP-7,8-diol) into the highly mutagenic and carcinogenic benzo[a]pyrene-r-7,t-8-dihydrodiol-t-9,10-epoxide (BaP-diol-t-epoxide), using cumene hydroperoxide in lieu of NADPH/O(2). Lipid hydroperoxide-supported P450 oxidation has been...
